The American Distance
My Travels Through a Divided Country
(Started October 2025)
My American Distance is a personal journey covering much of this country with my eyes and my images over the past few years. What I see may not be what you see, and what I feel may not be what you feel – neither being right, neither being wrong.
This body of work is about distance felt and distance seen. It isn’t about geography alone; it’s about how distance lives inside places — between neighbors, in empty spaces and quiet moments, between truth and belief, it’s about the discrepancy between what people are promised and what they actually live.
Today I see a country which is much different than it was in my youth. — a country pulled apart by inequality, clashing ideologies, and isolation.
I didn’t grow up amid wealth or power. I grew up just another American kid from the Midwest spoon fed a history according to Walt Disney and a society based on the principles of “The Andy Griffith Show”.
The American experiment designed by our founders may feel fractured, exhausted, and lost to days gone by.
However, amidst all this change, uncertainty, and unrest breathes the American Spirit that will never die.
The American Dream still lives – its just seems to be more difficult to find.
Ultimately asking the question:
What does distance mean in this moment of The American Experiment?
